2 men hurt in separate shooting incidents

CEBU, Philippines - Two people were seriously injured in separate shooting incidents in Sibonga during the weekend.

A tempura vendor sustained two gunshot wounds in the stomach when a motorcycle-riding gunman shot him past 8:00 p.m. Saturday in Barangay Poblacion.

Numecio Torres, 40, was on his way home driving his “trisikad” when the unidentified assailant, apparently waiting for him to pass by, shot him twice. The gunman sped off with his motorcycle while the victim was immediately rushed to Deiparine Medical Clinic by the people in the area.

Torres was later transferred to the South General Hospital in Naga because of his serious condition. Few hours later another shooting incident happened in Barangay Tubod, Sibonga.

Olimpio Rellon, 23, sustained a gunshot wound and a bruise in his body when one Edwin Sarda, 45 shot him. Initial investigation shows that the victim was also on his way home when his brother-in-law called him and introduced him to the suspect.

For still unknown reason, the suspect got mad at the victim, pulled out a handgun and struck the victim’s head with it. Rellon tried to run but it was too late because the suspect shot him in the stomach.

Rellon was also brought to Deiparine Medical Clinic but was transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

Police Officer 3 Antonio Sanchez believes that Rellon’s personal grudge with the suspect’s relative could be the motive behind the attack. — (FREEMAN)
