CEBU, Philippines – The Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) will be constructing five reservoirs in Cebu City's "thirsty areas."
The project, which is in line with its efforts to provide more water to their consumers in their franchise areas, will be completed by end of 2011.
These reservoirs will be constructed in the barangays of Guadalupe, Nivel, Apas, Oppra and BC Homes in Lahug, Cebu City.
The construction of these reservoirs is part of the 24/7 program of MCWD, which is aimed at providing water for their consumers 24 hours a day, seven days a week by end of 2011.
Currently, these places are considered "thirsty areas" because the water service is not available all the time.
Paredes said that currently, MCWD has a total of 132,000 customers and has a production capacity between 170 cubic meters to 180 cubic meters of water daily
Meanwhile, the MCWD and the Mactan Rock Industries, Inc. yesterday agreed to form a contractual joint venture partnership for the supply of 5,000 cubic meters of water in Lapu-Lapu City.
During the signing ceremony yesterday, MCWD general manager Armando Paredes said that this is a renewal of Mactan Rock's existing contract with their agency.
Lito Maderazo, Mactan Rock's chief executive officer and president, said their 10-year contract with MCWD that started in 1999 expired in 2009 and was renewed twice, in 2009 and 2010.
Under the agreement, the price of water per cubic meter is pegged at P26.00.
The water supply will be injected directly to the MCWD's existing 200-mm diameter distribution lines along Basak-Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City to Poblacion, Cordova or to the pipeline from the corner of Basak-Marigondon to the Basak-Pajac junction in Lapu-Lapu City. (FREEMAN)
