Fish vendor dies in road mishap

CEBU, Philippines – A 65-year-old fish vendor died after she was hit by a speeding motorcycle while crossing the national highway in Sitio Panucducan, Barangay Cawayan, Dalaguete Monday noon.

Hermana Carambana, resident of Barangay Banhigan, suffered severe injuries in the head and in the body. She was rushed to Dr. Alcantara Memorial Hospital by the motorcycle driver Ronald Fajardo, 26, resident of barangay Coro, but was declared dead an hour later.

SPO1 Veronico Centino of Dalaguete Police Station said the victim was carrying a bucket full of fish she was selling when the incident happened. The victim allegedly crossed the highway when Fajardo was maneuvering on a blind curve. Fajardo bumped the victim with his black Yamaha Vega motorcycle bearing plate number GU-7750. Because of the strong impact Fajardo fell on the ground while the victim was thrown few meters away.

Fajardo was detained at the police station while charges for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide is being prepared against him. (FREEMAN)
