Ex-con shot dead in Duljo

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines – An ex-convict was shot dead by an unidentified assailant in Barangay Duljo-Fatima midday yesterday.

Ludegario Ambayic, 28, a resident of Barangay Mambaling, died of six fatal gun shots to his head and nape. Investigation showed that the victim was walking in sitio Vampire when an unidentified assailant fired the shots, hitting Ambayic four times on the nape and twice on the head.

Despite the wounds, the victim still managed to run towards Spolarium St. where he eventually slumped to the ground.

Responding members of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation declared him dead. His remains now lie at the Oriental Funeral Homes.

PO3 Ruth Violango of the Homicide Section said it is possible that drugs or personal grudge might be the motive behind the killing.

Violango said Ambayic's older brother had reportedly discouraged the victim from going to sitio Vampire after Ambayic received death threats.

"Gibawalan na na siya sa iyang maguwang na muanha sa sitio Vampire kay nakasa daw na siya sa usa ka negosyante diha, sort of naka-tumbling daw. Gibaharan na na siya nga hunting-on. Basin sad gikan nagsuyop," Violango said.

Police recovered an empty shell of a .45 caliber pistol and live ammunition of the same caliber from the crime scene.

An improvised ice pick was also recovered from the victim's possession, which the police believed he was bringing constantly for self-defense. (FREEMAN)
