CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City council yesterday approved the resolution submitted by the City Disaster Coordinating Council (CDCC) which requests the council to declare sitio Cabildohan in barangay Looc and sitio NKKP of barangay Pagsabungan under the state of calamity and to set aside an amount from the city's calamity fund for the relief assistance of the fire victims.
The CDCC in its resolution considers the incident as calamitous due to the number of afflicted families as well as the condition of the areas as described by City Fire marshal Rogelio Bongabong.
Fire tore through sitio Cabildohan at around 8:28 last November 11 with 25 houses destroyed.
The Mandaue City Fire Bureau said the fire originated from an overheated electric fan.
Damage to property was pegged at P400,000.
Another fire struck sitio NKKP in barangay Pagsabungan last November 13 at 7:20 a.m. where 17 houses mostly made of light materials were destroyed.
Damage was placed somewhere in the neighborhood of P260,000. — THE FREEMAN
