CEBU, Philippines - Barangay Lahug Captain Mary Ann delos Santos challenged Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama to prove that he is sincere in his call for unity by giving back her barangay’s fuel allocation and financial aid for garbage collectors.
Rama did not give a categorical answer to the challenge. Instead, he encouraged all barangay officials to enter into a public-private partnership and not rely on the financial assistance from the city government.
Delos Santos, who won first councilwoman of Lahug in the last barangay elections, asked Rama to restore the P3,500 financial aid for each garbage collector as well as fuel allocation which were cut off by then mayor and nor South District Rep.
Delos Santos said giving back the assistance that her barangay used to receive would prove Rama’s sincerity in his call for unity.
— THE FREEMAN
