Machine shop operator shot dead while asleep

CEBU, Philippines – A 53-year-old man was found dead with several gunshot wounds in his house in Sitio Riles, Barangay Poblacion I, Carcar town Sunday evening. Initial investigation conducted by police showed Rio Tangangurang, who worked as an operator in a machine shop in Mandaue City, died of gunshot wounds to his left leg, near his groin and to his left foot.

But police added he could have wounds also in other parts of his body as his house was allegedly strafed by still unidentified person at past 8 p.m.

PO1 Gilmer Noval of Carcar Police Station told The FREEMAN that some residents said they noticed the assailant outside the house of the sleeping victim when the incident occurred.

After the incident was reported to the police, residents immediately brought Tangangurang to the Carcar District Hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police were able to recover three empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol from the crime scene while follow-up investigation is still being conducted for possible identification and arrest of the perpetrator. (FREEMAN)
