15-year-old girl nabbed for 'selling' shabu

CEBU, Philippines – A 15-year-old girl who allegedly disposes about 300 sachets of shabu daily was arrested in Barangay Ermita after she was caught in the act of selling the drug to a customer dawn yesterday.

The FREEMAN is withholding the name of the girl owing to her minority. She was caught by members of the Anti-Street Hoodlum Operating Team of the Cebu City Police Office with two sachets of shabu.

The A-SHOT personnel and some civilian agents were patrolling Barangay Ermita when they chanced upon a man and a woman talking at an alley. They reportedly saw the man hand over small plastic packets containing a white substance believed to be shabu.

They immediately rushed to the two, but only got hold of the girl, the man having eluded arrest. They recovered the sachets from the girl.

Sr. Insp. Bonifacio Garciano, chief of Theft and Robbery Section who leads A-SHOT, said the suspect disclosed during interrogation that she could sell more or less 300 sachets of shabu everyday, each pack costing P200.

The girl, a house help, also reportedly disclosed that it is no less than her employer that provides her the sachets of shabu to sell. The employer is now under police surveillance.

The girl said the man who evaded arrest is her boyfriend and her employer's son.

The girl is facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act should police prove that she acted "with discernment" during the arrest.

She is temporarily placed under the custody of the Department of Welfare and Development. (FREEMAN)
