Lapu-Lapu seeks PNoy's approval of bonuses for city execs, workers

CEBU, Philippines – The Lapu-Lapu City Council has approved a resolution requesting President Be-nigno "Noynoy" Aquino for authority to grant special year-end benefits to elective and appointive officials and employees of the city.

The City Council resolution said that for so many years already, Lapu-Lapu City officials and employees had been given extra year end benefits through a special author-ity from the president during the time of former and now Pampanga Congressman Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

The said extra benefits. in addition to what are normally granted during the Christmas season such as cash gifts and 13th month pay bonus pay.

However, these bonuses granted provided such extra benefits are to be funded through savings.

"Everybody is always looking forward to the Christmas season which is an occa-sion for parties, family reunions and most especially for gift-giving to family members and loved ones and these activities mean additional expense," the resolution said.

The resolution further said that the city government officials and employees have contributed their share not only in generating the much-needed income for the city.

It further said that it also help in controlling expenses and their effort resulted in savings.

"It is but fair and just that they be reciprocated for their cooperation and the most timely and meaningful occasion to reward them is during the Christmas season and in the form of additional benefits," the resolution said. (FREEMAN)
