P20 million allotted for projects in fourth district

- Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon -

CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Budget and Management recently released, through Special Allotment Release Order, the amount of P20 million intended for various infrastructure projects in the fourth district of Cebu.

Based on the DBM-SARO dated October 14, 2010 signed by DBM undersecretary Mario Relampagos, the amount is intended for construction of roads, school buildings repair and bridge concreting.

Fourth district Rep. Benhur Salimbangon said the said infrastructures projects will include construction of five barangay roads, seven concreting projects of barangay roads, concreting of a bridge and repairs of two school buildings, which will all be implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Meanwhile, Salimbangon said he supports the fight against illegal fishing in the northern part of the province. The solon has in fact joined the campaign of environmental lawyer Antonio Oposa, Jr., the Ramon Magsaysay awardee and proponent of ecology preservation.

According to Salimbangon, he has discussed with the new Secretary of Defense, Voltaire Gazmin, the possibility of providing financial support to the campaign.

Salimbangon said that as chairman of the committee on Aquaculture and Fisheries Resources of the House, his biggest advocacy is the restoration and rehabilitation of damaged aquatic resources in the entire fourth district of Cebu.

Another advocacy is to set up more marine sanctuaries to bring back the abundance of marine resources and provide a better income for the small fisherfolk who depend on the sea for their daily sustenance.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
