CEBU, Philippines – Graduating high school students from Cordova town can expect to get a college education next year.
Sixth district Rep. Gabriel Luis "Luigi" Quisumbing Jr. has promised to prioritize students from the town in his scholarship program.
The congressman recently made the promise to parents and students who are mostly enrolled at the Cordova Community College.
He said he had learned that a number of high school graduates in Cordova fail to pursue a college education because their parents are so poor they cannot afford to pay their tuition.
In response to the problem, Quisumbing said his office immediately initiated a scholarship program that would benefit high school graduates.
Only a few availed of the program this year but Quisumbing expects the number to double next year.
"Kinahanglan gayud nga atong padakan kining atong programa alang sa atong mga tinunan nga migradwar sa high school nga makapadayon sa ilang pagtungha sa college," said Quisumbing.
He said that through his Priority Development Assistance Fund, he can allocate big amounts for the scholarship program in Cordova and the whole sixth district. (FREEMAN)
