Nurse indicted for theft

MANILA, Philippines - The City Prosecutor’s Office recommended the filling of criminal complaint of theft against a registered nurse, a former clinical instructor in the College of Nursing of one of the prominent schools in Cebu City, for his alleged failure to pay for his loan despite several demands.

Nave Tarrosa, a resident of 443 Jasmin St., Sto Niño PBN Nivel Hills, Barangay Busay, faces charges before the Regional Trial Court for not paying more than P46,000 to Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC).

Prosecutor Rogelio del Prado recommended P50,000 for Tarrosa’s temporary liberty.

Del Prado said that after an investigation, it was determined that the accused has the “intent to gain without consent of the owner, steal and carried away” cash amounting to P46,597.56.

Del Prado said he gave Tarrosa an opportunity to dispute the allegations but the latter did not submit a controverting evidence despite the subpoena sent to him submitting controverting evidences, however the subpoena was duly served but the accused opt not to heed such notice.

The complainants, Rosal and Espejo, stated that before the accused went on absent without leave (AWOL) in the first semester of school year 2009-2010, he applied for a loan with Southwest Finance Corporation, an Aznar owned company.

On June 3, 2009, Southwest Finance Corporation requested RCBC Bank, Banilad Branch to release the loan proceeds in the amount of P33,298.78 to Tarrosa.

The bank immediately acted on the request and credited the said amount to the account number that Tarrosa maintained in RCBC Banilad Branch. But even before the first semester started, the accused went AWOL prompting Southwest Finance Corp. to immediately send a letter request for the same amount to be debited from the account of Tarrosa and credited back to the finance firm’s account.

But on June 18, 2009, Espejo forgot to credit back the amount to Southwest Finance Corp. and instead inadvertently added to the account of Tarrosa the amount of P33,298.78 two times which was equivalent to P66,597.56.

Espejo said that instead of returning the amount to the bank, on June 22, 2009, Tarrosa withdrew the money in P10,000; P16,600; P20,000 and P20,000. (THE FREEMAN NEWS)
