CCCI to build five more police stations

- Rene U. Borromeo -

CEBU, Philippines - Five more police stations in Cebu City will soon have a brand new building courtesy of the “Adopt a police station” program of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

CCCI announced that they have already scheduled the constructions of the new buildings of Fuente Osmeña Police Station, Carbon, Pardo, Mambaling and Parian.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama admired the businessmen’s effort of helping the police by providing them with new buildings to encourage them to work hard to improve peace and order in the city.

According to Rama, CCCI has been very cooperative to the city government. In fact, it has already built three beautiful buildings for Mabolo, San Nicolas and Waterfront police stations.

CCCI officials have already met with Cebu City police director Ramon Melvin Buenafe to personally know his preference of the stations that will be prioritized for the project.

“Within the year, sugdan na pag-construct ang Parian police station which will be sponsored by our member-company, the Aboitiz,” said CCCI public information officer Marcelyn Cabildo.

In his accomplishment report for his first 100 days in office last Friday, Rama proudly announced “We have finalized Private-Public Partnership with plans for five additional buildings for police stations at no cost to the government.”

Aside from Aboitiz, another member of the CCCI allegedly promised to also build one police station.

Cabildo however said some of the police stations mentioned will have to wait until the issue of the ownership of the lot it presently occupies is settled.

Cabildo cited the Fuente Police Station wherein it is among the priorities for the program but because of the unsettled issue of the lot ownership the construction might be affected.

The lot where the Fuente Police station is located is owned by the Cebu province.

The Fuente police has to secure a deed of donation of the lot first from the provincial government before the construction of the building can proceed. (FREEMAN)
