CEBU, Philippines - Two boys reportedly died while a man survived three gunshot wounds by driving himself to the hospital in separate shooting incidents in Danao City on Friday.
At 6 p.m., an 18-year-old boy was gunned down by a member of suspected “rugby boys,” whom the victim allegedly ridiculed due to their weird fashion sense in Sitio Villa Socorro, Barangay Suba.
Remund Jasmin, a “trisikad” driver and resident of the barangay, died of fatal gunshot wounds to his left chest, right foot, and neck.
SPO4 Jose Salingua Jr. told The FREEMAN that based on the statements of the witnesses, they have identified the three suspects but they are withholding their names because they are still minors, aging about 16-17 years old.
Salingua said before the incident, a group of seven teenagers, believed to be “rugby boys,” passed by the area where Jasmin and his friends were playing basketball. But while passing, the victim allegedly made a remark on the appearance of the group saying “Ngiga’g attire.”
Salingua said one of the suspects probably got irked at the comment of Jasmin that when they passed again on their way home, three of the group’s members approached the victim and shot him several times.
Witnesses rushed Jasmin to the Danao District Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
In Sitio Ilaya, Barangay Guinacot, two minors, aged 17 and 13, were also hurt in gun attack while they were sleeping in a hut around 2:35 a.m.
Junrey Laurente Fernandez, 17, sustained gunshot wound to his head while Dejie Maurillo, 13, was injured in his neck and right hand.
Salingua said the two victims, with two other companions, were sleeping when an unidentified person arrived and open fired at them using unknown caliber of firearm.
The two boys were brought to Danao District Hospital but were later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.
Salingua said they received information that one of the victims died but they are still gathering more information and waiting for the report from the family of the victim.
At 3 a.m., a 45-year-old trisikad driver was also shot by his drunk neighbor in Santo Tomas Village, Barangay Poblacion.
Joselito Imelda Pasion, 45, sustained gunshot wounds to his forehead, left chest and left arm but still managed to drive his vehicle to the hospital, which is about two kilometers away.
Police said the victim’s wounds were all minor and he was lucky because none of the bullets that hit him penetrated his body.
Pasion was allegedly sleeping inside his house with his family when he heard gun bursts coming from outside their house. When he went out to check, he allegedly saw his neighbor, Romy Amoroto, carrying a .22 revolver.
When Amoroto saw Pasion, he reportedly forcibly entered the latter’s house and fired at him.
The suspect immediately fled after the incident while the victim drove his trisikad to the hospital to seek treatment for his wounds. (FREEMAN NEWS)
