Frustrated murder charge vs. man who set son-in-law on fire
CEBU, Philippines – A frustrated murder charge will be filed against the 82-year-old man who set his sleeping son-in-law on fire in Argao on Saturday.
SPO2 Elizer Monte of the Argao Police Station said Emeterio Dayap will be subjected to an inquest proceeding today and a case will be filed against him for injuring his son-in-law, Paquito Alcarez, 54.
Monte said no less than Elsa Alcarez, the suspect's daughter, executed an affidavit against her father after manifesting interest to file a case against him.
The victim, Monte said, is now in stable condition although he is still at the intensive care unit of the South General Hospital. He sustained third degree burns to his head, face, neck, arms and stomach.
Asked whether Dayap can still be sued despite his old age, Monte said it is up to the court to decide the matter, adding that the suspect is still strong.
Alcarez was sleeping inside his house midday last Saturday when Dayap went into his house, poured gasoline over him and set him on fire.
The two reportedly has disagreement when Alcarez cut down a mango tree. (FREEMAN)
