SKorean firm offers to solve Umapad dumpsite problems

CEBU, Philippines – A South Korea-based company has expressed its willingness to help Mandaue City in addressing the problems attending the open dumpsite in barangay Umapad.

City Councilor Diosdado Suico, chairman of the committee on foreign relations, said Korean businessmen visited the city last week while Mayor Jonas Cortes was at the Shanghai Expo in the People's Republic China.

Suico, while Cortes was in China, served as the acting mayor. Councilor Demetrio Cortes Jr. served as the vice mayor since Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede went with Cortes.

Suico said represented by Dr. Stephano Chung, chief adviser CR Asset Group Company Limited was accompanied by chief executive officer Clara Lee, and Vive Suh.

CR Asset Group of Korea had written Cortes about its intention to help regarding the problem with the open dump.

In a meeting, the group briefed the city about what the group intends to do with the dumpsite.

Suico admitted the city lacks the technical knowledge to run the dumpsite.

The group assured city officials that they will provide the technical personnel who will assist the city in data gathering and collection of information.

The Koreans who went to the dumpsite said it needs immediate attention. (FREEMAN)
