CEBU, Philippines - Sixth District Provincial board member Arleigh Sitoy said traffic officials of the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-lapu should sit down and try to look for answers to the traffic jams at the approaches of the Mactan-Mandaue Bridge.
According to Sitoy, with the increasing number of vehicles every year, there is a need for a comprehensive plan to address traffic problems in both Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu.
During the meeting with members of the Metro Cebu Bridge and Management Board chaired by Governor Gwen Garcia, the plan to construct an overpass at the foot of the bridge at Lapu-Lapu City side was taken up.
Another fly-over was also recommended at Plaridel Street near the Mandaue City Hospital.
Sitoy said he welcomes the plan to put up an overpass in Lapu-Lapu City at the side of the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge and also another fly-over in Mandaue City.
Sitoy said while waiting for the realization of the construction of the two flyovers, he believes that traffic officials should adopt measures that would minimize congestion.
The provincial board member cited the putting up of traffic signs to guide the motorists during night time to avoid road accidents.
Sitoy said the traffic problem if not given immediate solution will affect the economies of both Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu. (THE FREEMAN)
