City dad pushes for clean surroundings

CEBU, Philippines - A Lapu-Lapu City Councilor yesterday urged barangay captains and officials and members of the Sangguniang Kabataan to intensify the clean-up drive in their respected barangays,in their efforts to fight dengue.

Lapu-Lapu City Councilor Efren T. Herrera said that barangay officials should lead the campaign in the fight against dengue through clean-up drives in their respective areas.

Earlier, Mayor Paz Radaza announced the launching of a clean-up drive in barangay Mactan which was led by Mutya ng Pilipinas second runner-up Sharon Angel.

But Herrera said barangay officials should respond to the call of Mayor Radaza.

Herrera said officials of the Department of Health said that one way to keep the dengue disease at bay is to clean the environment.

"Kay mao man gayud ni ang makatabang nato batok dengue, angayan gayud nga mao ni ang palapdan sa atong mga opisyal sa barangay," said Councilor Herrera.

The city councilor clarified that he is not against the plan of the city health department to purchase chemicals to fight dengue but there is a need for the council to be enlightened first by City Health Officer Dr. Rodolfo Berame.

The City Council of Lapu-Lapu has approved an ordinance allocating P2 million for the purchase of chemicals for the use of the city health department in it combatting the dengue disease. (THE FREEMAN)
