Teenager drowns in Sibonga well

CEBU, Philippines – A teenager drowned in a well estimated to be 60 feet deep in sitio Kaidyukan, Barangay Guimbangco-an, Sibonga town, yesterday afternoon.

Police said around 1 p.m., Elizalde Amaya, 19, a resident of the place, went down the well owned by barangay captain Ritchie Fiel to clean it. But 30 minutes later, the victim slipped and fell into the well.

They surmised he was overcome by gasoline fumes and fell from a basket that was used to lower him into the well. He had brought a gallon of gasoline with him to put it into a pump that would suck water out of the well.

The well was filled with water around 20 feet high from the bottom.

Fiel immediately asked help from other officials. But due to the depth of the well, police sought help from the other towns as well.

Personnel of the fire stations of Argao and Carcar immediately responded to the said alarm. It was around 7 p.m. when the lifeless body of the victim was recovered.

Fiel has assured he will extend financial assistance to the family of the teenager. (FREEMAN)
