DTI urged to help delicacy makers develop packaging
CEBU, Philippines – The Mandaue City council, through a resolution, is asking the Department of Trade and Industry regional office-7 to provide training and technology for the city's deli-cacy producers for the improvement of the packaging of their products.
Mandaue City Councilor Emmarie Dolores Ouano-Dizon introduced the resolution and got the support of the majority of the members of the city council.
Ouano-Dizon said Mandaue is known for its popular delicacies such as bibingka, tagaktak, masareal, and other home-based products.
The city council resolution said the city is geared towards becoming an industrial tourism destination with the view that tourists shall be offered these delicacies.
Some of these delicacies, especially bibingka and tagaktak, are still wrapped in banana leaves for bibingka and ordinary plastic for tagaktak, the resolution said.
It said packaging is an important component in product design.
Councilor Ouano-Dizon said the Department of Trade and Industry, under its One Town One Product (OTOP) priority program, has a training component for packag-ing.
The city government has an office handling livelihood and entrepreneurial programs known as the Mandaue City Free Opportunity Livelihood Technology and Entre-preneurial Courses. (FREEMAN)
