Policeman hurt after gun falls, goes off

- Ellenie Irine Apuya -

CEBU, Philippines – A policeman landed in the hospital after he was hit by a bullet from his own service firearm that went off after falling accidentally to the floor.

The incident happened past 11pm the other night at the residence of PO2 Rommel Medioda along St. Joseph Street in Barangay Hipodromo.

Medioda, 38, is currently assigned at the mobile patrol group of the city police.

Medioda said he was just sitting inside his bedroom when his firearm fell to the floor and went off, hitting him on his left buttock. His live-in partner, Jomary Vicera, rushed him to the Perpetual Succour Hospital.

The gun, a 38 caliber Smith and Wesson with serial number D268774, was surrendered to the city police homicide section.

Allegations surfaced that it was Vicera who allegedly shot Medioda intentionally, but outgoing City Police Director Patrocinio Comendador said he will have the incident investigated to iron out issues. (FREEMAN)
