CEBU, Philippines -Effective last Thursday, newly assigned city jail warden, Supt. Waldemar Villanueva, was relieved because of the escape of an inmate last Tuesday, the day he assumed as warden.
Replacing him is Supt. Felixberto Jagorin, said Sr. Insp. Dennis Aliño, the new deputy jail warden for administration told The FREEMAN yesterday.
Aliño, who sat as deputy simultaneously with Jagorin and deputy warden for operations, Sr. Insp. Julito Tarona, said Villanueva was relieved by the Bureau of Jail Penology and Management-7 for the escape of Reynard Marturillas.
Marturillas, 44, was convicted for possession of illegal drugs and was believed to have escaped by hiding himself among the trash being collected by a garbage truck owned the city government around 2 p.m. last Tuesday.
Aliño said that he will serve as the deputy for administration and at the same time remains as the head of the legal division of the BJMP-7.
Right now, he said, they are still searching for Marturillas.
As to reports that they are being given a deadline to locate the escapee, he said he did not receive such as an order from the BJMP-7.
Insp. Anacleto Dusaran, city jail’s chief of custodial and rehabilitation, said they realized that Marturillas was gone during the final headcount around 8 p.m. that day.
Marturillas was detained at the 2nd floor of the Drug Offenders Building. He is a resident of Barangay Banilad.
An ongoing investigation is being conducted against the jail guards to determine if they are liable. They were reportedly very lax as they allowed the truck to leave without inspection.
The names of the four garbage collectors who could have possibly connived with the escapee were also taken.
They are also getting in touch with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Negros Oriental because the escapee has relatives in Guihulngan town.(FREEMAN NEWS)
