CEBU, Philippines - Two men died in separate shooting incidents in Cebu City last Wednesday.

In Sitio Ilang-ilang, Barangay Sawang-Calero, Jose Sebredo, 35, an electronic technician, was shot several times by his neighbor, Patrick Leyson, while the victim was tending his family’s sari-sari store, which is located along the road.

The victim’s wife, Joana, told police investigators that at around 2:30 p.m., while her husband was inside their sari-sari store, the suspect, armed with a gun, suddenly entered and shot Jose several times.

Jose sustained gunshot wounds to the right neck and shoulder and did not make it alive to the Cebu City Medical Center.

Joana believes that the suspect shot her husband due to personal grudge. She alleged that Leyson was tagged as the person responsible for stealing Jose’s motorcycle, which was recovered a few months ago. She also revealed that her husband had already been receiving death threats after the recovery of the motorcycle.

PO2 Judan Batucan said they are still conducting follow up operation to arrest Leyson who will be charged in court once they finished taking the affidavits of witnesses, especially the victim’s wife.

Meanwhile, an unidentified man was also shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Quezon Boulevard, Sitio Bato, Barangay Ermita at around 9;15 p.m. of the same day.

Spot investigation conducted by the Crime Scene Investigation Unit personnel led by SPO2 Sylvanus Abella revealed that the victim died of gunshot wounds to the chest and left portion of his body.

The victim, who was described as on his late 30s, 5’4” in height, wavy hair, brown complexion, wearing faded jeans and black polo shirt and red slippers, remained unidentified as of yesterday afternoon.

Giovanni Calit, a barangay tanod, alleged that he and his colleagues were on duty at the nearby tanod outpost when they heard three bursts of gunfire coming from the interior portion of Carbon Market.

Calit also reported that they still saw the victim running while wounded before he slumped on the road.

The tanods immediately responded but the unidentified suspects allegedly escaped and ran away from the area. — THE FREEMAN
