CEBU, Philippines - A 19-year-old woman who is allegedly suffering from mental illness was raped by her neighbor while she was walking on her way home in Sitio Subida, Barangay Singsing, Balamban town last Thursday morning. Accompanied by her parents, the victim went to the police station to report the incident and identify the suspect as Englis Napoles, 36.
The victim narrated to police that while she was on her way home after buying from a store, Napoles suddenly appeared and dragged her into a secluded area and sexually molested her. Due to inconsistencies in the statements of the victim, the police suggested to her parents to bring her to a hospital for examination.
SPO3 Arvie Banate told The FREEMAN that at first, when the victim reported to their station, she only accused the suspect of acts of lasciviousness. Banate then invite the suspect to the station.
But after she was examined at the hospital, it was confirmed that she was indeed raped as there was sign of penetration found in her private organ.
“Magsige lang og lingo-lingo ang biktima. Sige mi’g pangutana niya kung unsa gyud ang nahitabo. Sige mi pangutana mao taod-taod nisulti na gyud siya. Naa man gud gamay na dipirensya ang biktima,” Banate added.
At the police station, the victim positively identified Napoles as the one who raped her. The suspect, who admitted to the crime he committed, will be facing rape charges before the Regional Trial Court (RTC). (THE FREEMAN)
