DSWD observing disability prevention and rehab week

CEBU, Philippines- The Department of Social Welfare and Development will be observing the 32nd National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week.

With the theme, “Sa Istrakturang Accessible, Lahat ay Able” (An Accessible Structure is Able to Help All), the celebration aims to promote the accessibility of persons with disabilities (PWDs) towards barrier-free environment as stated in the law. The DSWD is observing the event every third week of July in coordination with the National Council on Disability Affair. The event highlights the nation’s effort towards disability prevention and rehabilitation of (PWDs) leading to their integration into the mainstream of society.

DSWD regional director Ma. Evelyn Macapobre said part of their activities during the celebration are the holding of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, photo exhibit that features successful PWDs, job fairs for PWDs, livelihood and trade fairs of products made/produced by PWDs, sports competition for PWDs, medical and dental mission for PWDs, among others.
