MCWD: No more shortage of water supply

CEBU, Philippines - The long dry spell is over indeed, as there is no more water shortage in Metro Cebu areas, an official of the Metropolitan Cebu Water District claimed.

Engr. Ernie Delco, assistant general manager for operations of MCWD, said yesterday that they are now producing their required target of 174,000 cubic meter of water daily.

Delco explained that there is no more water shortage to supply the demand of their current 128,000 household and industrial customers. He however said that only 50 percent of the total households in their franchise area have water service connections with them.

Delco said that the Jaclupan dam’s water level that has reached way below 8,000 cubic meter during the El Niño has now a capacity to produce 25,000 cubic meter daily.

“Nakabawi na gyud ta. There is no more water shortage in Cebu,” Delco said in an interview with The FREEMAN yesterday.

Delco said that the Buhisan dam, which was closed last month due to heavy siltation, is now ready to impound rainwater in the coming days.

The Buhisan dam can store a minimum of 200,000 cubic meter and can supply 10,000 cubic meter daily.

“Gisirad-an na ang Buhisan dam ganiha, so that the rainwaters will be converted into production in the coming days especially nga ting-ulan na,” Delco said.

A 10,000 cubic meter of water c an benefit at least 7,000 households per day, Delco added.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
