Robbers shoot man who had no valuables

CEBU, Philippines - Mark Oliver Brigoli Duarte, 22, thought he would not be touched by robbers because he wasn’t bringing anything of value when he rode a jeepney at dawn yesterday.

He opened his bag and showed the contents to two men who announced a hold-up while he was on board a public utility jeepney with route number 03L.

But Duarte, a service crew member of Greenwich at SM City Cebu, was instead shot twice by robbers at around 2:15 a.m. along M. J. Cuenco Avenue. He was on his way home to Barangay Tejero when the robbers struck.

He was hit at the arm and at the right side of his body.

Duarte said that two robbers boarded the jeepney while their companion acted as a back-up.

He described the one who shot him as about 19-year-old, slim, with long hair and was wearing a black shirt.

The suspects immediately fled after the shooting. It was the driver of the jeepney who took him to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) for treatment.

The guard at the hospital informed the police about the incident. Homicide Section police personnel led by SPO3 Rey Cuyos are still investigating the crime. – THE FREEMAN
