Lapu-Lapu City Council To Also Hold Sessions In Outlying Isle

- Garry B. Lao -

To bring the city government’s lawmaking body closer to the people, the new set of Lapu-Lapu City councilors will hold a regular session outside City Hall legislative building at least once a month.

The 12th Sangguniang Panlungsod convenes next month.

“We are actually going out of the session hall and hold our sessions in Olango island at least once a month,” Councilor-elect Harry Don Radaza said in an interview with The FREEMAN.

Mayor-elect Paz Radaza, Vice Mayor-elect Marcial Ycong and the members of the city council have initially discussed plans to hold office and sessions in the mini city hall located in barangay Talima, Olango Island.

Mayor Radaza, who has been visiting the island even before she ran for mayor, reportedly will hold office there at least thrice a week.

In an interview, Councilor Radaza said the mayor and the entire council decided to hold a once-a-month session outside the legislative hall in the mainland city because this way “we can see up close the needs of our constituents.”

The mini city hall, which recently acquired additional equipment, now has a City Social Welfare and Development office (CSWD), treasurer’s office, civil registry office, and the permanent rooms for office of the mayor and office of the vice mayor.

Olango Island is made up of 11 barangays, the biggest of which is Sta. Rosa.
