VICTIM DID WEAR HELMET: Ex-DILG town head dies in bike crash
CEBU, Philippines - The former head of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) of Barili town died in a motorcycle accident in Sitio Sangi, Barangay Maghanoy last Friday morning.
The victim, Marcos Alboradora, 75, living in Barangay Looc, Dumanjug, was allegedly not wearing a helmet when the accident happened.
According to the police, Alboradora was driving his Honda XRM motorcycle bearing plate numbers YT 8929, along the national highway was on his way to Barangay Poblacion to visit his son. When he passed on a pothole, he allegedly tried to avoid it but because he was driving too fast, he lost control of his vehicle and swerved to the left side of the road and crashed.
Because of the impact, the victim sustained severe head injuries that did not make it to the Barili District Hospital alive.
SPO2 Zaldy Urello, desk officer of Barili Police Station, told The FREEMAN that the area where the victim crashed is located in front of the town cemetery and considered an accident-prone area.
Urello added that they have already reported the pothole to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for action and avoid another accident.
The police officer recalled that the pothole was patched up before but due to the continuous rainfall, it became visible and deep again.
Meanwhile, a cargo truck loaded with coconut shells slammed into a coconut tree along the national highway of Barangay Binongkalan, Catmon town on the same day.
Fortunately, despite the severe damage on the truck, police investigators said nobody was reported hurt.
Initial investigation conducted by the Catmon Police Station disclosed that the cargo truck, with plate numbers GLW-701, driven by Jurendo Ortalla, 35, of Caputatan Norte Medellin, Cebu was bound to Cebu City.
Upon reaching a curved lane, a speeding passenger bus allegedly overtook another bus. To avoid collision, Ortalla maneuvered his truck but the brake malfunctioned causing them to hit a coconut tree. (FREEMAN NEWS)
