CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Council commended Gecel Gabucan Codera for successfully topping the recent Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure examinations.
For her exemplary achievement, she will also receive P50,000 cash incentive from the City Government.
Councilor Edu Rama, proponent of the resolution commending Codera and granting incentive, said that Cebu City takes pride with Codera’s accomplishment because she did not only rule over examiners in the whole province but also in the entire Philippines.
Codera, 21, graduated magna cum laude from the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJR). She is a resident of Sitio Mahayahay, Barangay Busay, Cebu City. She is the daughter of Reynaldo and Gina Codera, who are flower dealers from Busay.
The Council had first debated before all members agreed to approve Rama’s resolution.
Some of the councilors are concerned that giving the incentive to Codera now may set a precedent that will later compel the council to give cash incentives to those who will top licensure examinations.
This will be the first time that the city would be giving a cash reward to a Cebuano topnotcher.
Councilor Rodrigo Abellanosa asked his fellow members if the City is ready to grant cash incentives to all who will top licensure examinations in the future.
But presiding officer and incoming Mayor Michael Rama said that there should be no problem with giving Codera a reward because it is rare that one gets the top post.
All members of the Council later agreed to approve the resolution after they set guidelines for future recipients of cash rewards from the City.
The awards shall be restricted to Cebu City residents who rank first in any licensure examination. It does not matter what school she graduated from. (FREEMAN NEWS)
