Man faces case of child abuse
CEBU, Philippines - Charges for child abuse have been filed in court against a man accused of slapping an eight-year-old neighbor in Barangay Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City.
Joevic Villarubia is facing a case for the violation of Section 5, Article III of Republic Act No. 7610.
In his sworn statement, the boy said Villarubia “knocked my head, slapped my face.”
“I was playing with my cousins; suddenly Villarubia called me “bayot” (and he) repeated it many times, so I did replied at him “boang,” then I walked away from him and sat at the trisikad but Villarubia followed me and berated me (as) he pulled down the short pants of his son and placed the butt of his son to my face and he wants me to smell it,” the boy added.
Villarubia then allegedly took the trisikad and attempted to hit the minor with it, saying “ilubong taka sa kanal ‘ron.”
After he noticed about the incident, the boy’s father, Reynaldo Corilla, went to the house of Villarubia and confronted the suspect but Villarubia allegedly told him: “if you want to sue me everywhere, I will face you.”
Corilla then took his son to the hospital for examination and proceeded to the police to seek assistance.
In his affidavit, Corilla said that after the incident, his son has some sleepless nights.
In elevating the case to the court, Prosecutor Alex G. Gabud recommended a bail of P50,000 for Villarubia’s temporary freedom. (FREEMAN NEWS)
