Cops get leads in driver's murder

CEBU, Philippines - The police in Mandaue City are making progress in the investigation of the death of a taxi driver who was found lifeless inside his cab in sitio Basbas, barangay Pagsabungan, Mandaue City last Sunday evening.

Mandaue City police director Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac said the police have gathered some leading to the killing of 48-year-old Eliezer Parilla.

Parilla sustained a cut on the neck.

A witness reportedly saw a commotion going on inside the cab with two unidentified men seemingly attacking a person. This prompted the witness to report the matter to the barangay tanods at an outpost stationed several meters away.

The tanods, in turn, relayed the information to the police.

When members of the Investigation and Detective Management Branch of MCPO arrived at the area, the driver’s assailants had already left, and Parilla sprawled on his seat, with a neck wound.

He did not reach the Mandaue City District Hospital alive.

An investigation conducted by a team of Intelligence and Detective Management Branch of the MCPO revealed that there were three witnesses in the killing last May 23.

However, Gillamac could not yet reveal their witnesses for security reasons.

In the investigation, according to the witnesses, the victim was brought in the interior part of the city before he was killed. The assailants later on fled from the area on a motorcycle.

“Posibleng gipatay ang biktima sa laing dapit,” Gillamac said.Gillamac, however, is not discounting robbery being the motive.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
