Another health check for Tomas

- Jessica Ann R. Pareja -

CEBU, Philippines - Outgoing mayor and congressman-elect Tomas Osmeña is taking a leave of absence for 10 days beginning June 3 to go to the United States for his semi-annual medical check-up and to attend the graduation of his son, Miguel.

Osmeña will undergo check-up at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas where he underwent operation for cancer of the urinary bladder April last year.

Osmeña has since been declared cancer-free after doctors found no further evidence of metastic disease in other parts of his body, but he has to undergo a regular check-up to ensure the stability of his health. This time around, the mayor will stay in Houston for about four days before going to Los Angeles in California with his wife Margot to attend their son’s graduation.

Osmeña said his check-up is supposed to be on July, but he decided to visit M.D. Anderson earlier in time for Miguel’s graduation. Miguel will be graduating with honors for a degree in Philosophy at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) on June 12.

Meanwhile, Osmeña announced that Assistant City Administrator Juvy Morelos will temporarily take the place of City Administrator Francisco “Bimbo” Fernandez who has tendered his resignation from the post.

Fernandez filed his courtesy resignation to give incoming mayor Michael Rama to choose his own city administrator.

Morelos has worked at City Hall since 2004 and Fernandez has strongly recommended her to be his replacement “because of her experience and tested capability.”

Morelos will assume as temporary city administrator on June 30.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
