- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines - Two pedestrians were severely injured after they were hit by a speeding bus while they were crossing a national road on Barangay Guinsay, Danao City past 10 a.m. Saturday.

The victims were identified as Joel Capul, 24, and his alleged girlfriend, Hailane Jayme, 19, both residents of Camalig Bato, Barangay Tabok.

The Ceres bus that hit them was bearing plate numbers LMF-403 and body number 8738 and was driven by Melchor Misamis, 32, of Barangay Guinacot, Danao City.

Police said that based on their investigation, the bus was traveling north-bound when it accidentally hit the victims who were crossing from the left side of the road.

Due to the impact, the victims were reportedly thrown away to different directions and hit their bodies on the pavement, resulting in factures and severe head injuries to both of them.

The victims were rushed to Danao District Hospital but were transferred to a hospital in Cebu City for further medication.

Despite the incident, the driver reportedly did not stop and instead sped away towards Carmen and surrendered at the Carmen Police Station.

The bus, which was impounded at the Danao Police Station, also incurred damages at the front right side windshield and a crack on the right side bumper and ride side headlight.

The driver is now detained at the police station while the police are preparing appropriate charges to be filed against him. — THE FREEMAN
