Police help clear streets of poll materials

CEBU, Philippines - More than 200 policemen help cleanup the streets of election posters, streamers, pamphlets and other election materials that were left after the May 10 elections.  

The activity is past of the nationwide cleanup drive called by the national police office to clear the surroundings of litter.

No less than Police Regional Office-7 director, Chief Supt. Lani-o Nerez led the hundreds of policemen in removing campaign posters placed in the different areas of Metro Cebu the other day.

In Cebu City, Cebu City Police Office director, Patrocinio Comendador Jr., was also hands on in directing his men during yesterday’s cleanup drive. All off duty policemen assigned in the different police stations were asked to join the activity.

Chief Insp. Arnel Banzon, CCPO’s community relation chief said all stations are required to participate in the cleanup. Station commanders who fail to have their off duty men participate would be made to explain, he added.

Some personnel and firetrucks from Cebu City Fire Department also helped the police in the cleanup by spraying water on the posters so they can be easily removed.

Sr. Supt. Erson Digal, director of Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) said that he already instructed all chief of police in Cebu province and component cities to coordinate with the local government units for their cleanup operations.

Nerez also urged winning and losing candidates to hire their own volunteers to remove their posters and campaign materials as what they did during the campaign period to place election materials in the streets.

“Kung kahimo sila sa pag-hire og mopilit sa ilang mga posters nganong dili man sila ka hire og tao nga motangtang sa ilang mga posters nga gipapilit?” Nerez said.  (FREEMAN NEWS)
