Georgia gets last-minute backing from CAV

CEBU, Philippines -Lakas-Kampi-CMD mayoral candidate for Cebu City Georgia Osmeña is optimistic to win the votes of women after receiving a boost in her candidacy during the last day of the campaign with the endorsement of the Crusade Against Violence.

Georgia said she sees in the women the awareness of the need to have a leader that will take care in the delivery of basic services that the present administration allegedly has overlooked.

She became more inspired after CAV president Thelma Chiong endorsed her.

“We believe and trust Osmeña to be the best person to run the city,” Chiong said as she signified their support for Georgia.

“Like her father Serging before her, Georgia is very brave and has a word of honor, that is why we support her. Isog gyud si Georgia, kay bisa’g gikontrahan pa siya ni Mayor Tommy, she still decided to run,” Chiong added.

Aside from Georgia, CAV is also supporting the candidacy of independent candidate Rico Palcuto for vice mayor of Cebu City. The group is also supporting the candidacy of the Partido ng Masang Pilipino standard-bearer and ousted president Joseph Estrada.

Chiong said that CAV has always been sympathetic to women and always believe in the power of a woman to handle responsibilities with utmost dedication and compassion.

“I’ve been campaigning for her silently. I’ve been telling my friends and CAV members to vote for Georgia. If they don’t vote for Georgia, I told them not to vote anybody for mayor. Mituo mi ug salig mi ni Georgia,” Chiong said.

The lady Osmeña held her meeting de avance yesterday morning in an uptown restaurant following a caravan around city.

A simple program was held at the Abuhan Dos restaurant where she thanked her supporters especially women who have been very supportive of her candidacy.

“In five days we visited the whole city except the top most areas (through the caravans). I promised my supporters to be a good mayor. On Monday there will be a new administration and I told them I hope it’s me,” Osmeña said.

As the campaign period ended yesterday, Osmeña’s Go Cebu Party is now focusing on finalizing the list of watchers they will deploy during Monday’s elections.

She said that they will be fielding 1120 poll watchers, two per clustered precincts. “We can’t expect this to be perfect; it is the first time we are running this election. So I expect something to happen, it is something in the process, not intentional,” Osmeña said adding that she in not in favor of postponement of election just to entertain fears of failure of elections.
