Carmen mayoralty bets sign peace pact
CEBU, Philippines - The three mayoralty candidates in Carmen town have signed a covenant for honest, orderly, and peaceful elections.
Signing the covenant were reelectionist Mayor Sonia Pua, Vice Mayor Martin Gerard Villamor, and Dr. Amytis Batao.
The signing was witnessed by St. Augustine Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Virgilio Pedrano; Carmen election officer Patricia Sitoy; 1Lt. Amer Minanga, Company Commander of the 52nd Infantry Batallion 8ID based in Barangay Dungguan, Danao City; Carmen Police Chief Inspector Carlos Reyes; Engr. Julius Barcelona, Grand Knight, Knight of Columbus; and Silvestre Ruelo, Federation President of the Senior Citizens Association in Carmen.
Under the covenant, the candidates promised to take responsibility on the illegal acts committed by their supporters and to accept whoever will be eventually chosen by their constituents by setting aside pride and self-interest.
The three candidates also promised to abide by the rules and regulations mandated by the Commission on Elections and committed not to perform acts inimical to public interest such as threats and violence against contending candidates or his/her followers, vote buying.
The covenant was distributed to the residents of Carmen by the Parish Pastoral Council hoping that the people will monitor the compliance of each candidate to the said covenant. (FREEMAN NEWS)
