CEBU, Philippines - A platoon of policemen will be deployed in major areas of Cebu City where labor groups and workers are expected to stage protest rallied during the observance of the Labor Day today.
Cebu City Police Office director Patrocinio Comendador said that the platoon, which will be composed of around 30 to 40 policemen, will be tasked as Crowd Dispersal Management (CDM) team.
The police official is hoping that there would be no violent incidents today when labor groups hold their protest actions to show their condition and demands to the government.
“We respect their rights to demonstrate but we request them to just observe their limits. They should prevent destroying properties and harm other people,” Comendador said.
The CCPO director said that the team will be making sure that the demonstrators will not be blocking the traffic.
Based on the previous Labor Day observances, he said most of the labor groups and workers’ union members held their activities in front Gaisano Metro along Colon Street. – THE FREEMAN
