Candidate slams rivals for pasting posters over his and Jonas posters

CEBU, Philippines - The Liberal Party’s congressional aspirant in the sixth district has denounced rivals who paste their posters over other candidates’ posters.

Ariston “Baludong”Cortes III said his meager resources go to waste because of this practice, allegedly called “Operation Taptap.” 

He has claimed that this tactic is prevalent along the major thoroughfares especially along M.C. Briones Street and A.S. Fortuna Street where his posters and that of his brother’s, reelectionist Mayor Jonas Cortes, which are pasted on fences and walls of private properties, are now covered with posters advertising candidates of the opposing camp.

According to Cortes, the money they have spent for these posters have gone to waste.

Cortes however cannot say how much has been wasted but for a candidate like him who has limited resources, it is a lot.

Cortes is asking his opponents to respect their rights and to comply with Comelec rules regarding the proper placement of posters.

Candidates are allowed to post their political posters on private properties only if there is consent from the owner.

A Comelec rule states that politicians can post their propaganda materials in common poster areas designated by Comelec. In Mandaue City, these include the public plaza, all 26 barangay halls, and Subangdaku Plaza below the flyover.  (FREEMAN NEWS)
