Spate of shootings in the city kill 3
CEBU, Philippines - Three people died in separate shooting incidents in Cebu City in a span of 24-hours including a checker of a shipping company.
Delfin Sumilhig, 60, resident of barangay Pagsabungan, Mandaue City, died on the spot after having shot on the head by Gerbie Siason alias Amang, of Villagonzalo 2 in barangay Tejero. Sumilhig, checker of Sulpicio Shipping Lines, Inc., was inside his office at Pier 5 when Siason, a janitor, shot him on the head. Responding policemen conducted a hot pursuit operation against the suspect but failed to arrest him because he was nowhere to be found.
An old grudge between the two over six months ago is being looked into as the possible motive of the killing. The victim allegedly got mad at the suspect when the latter locked the comfort room of their office despite knowing that he would then spend the night at the office.
In another shooting incident, 23-year old Manuel Cinabre died after an unknown bicycle riding gunman shot him at around 9:00 p.m. while walking along Vicente Gullas Street in barangay Santo. Niño.
An hour prior to the said incident, 29-year old Jaime Cordova, resident of Seaside Alumnos, barangay Basak, Cebu City also died of gunshot wound. Cordova was walking into a small alley in sitio Toong, barangay Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City when unidentified gunman fired at him. — Niña G. Sumacot and Mellanie Joy C. Rosales, CNU intern/FPL
