CEBU, Philippines - Another schedule will be set for the visit of Choleng Legaspi, the 80 year old woman with a special gift of identifying sources of water by just pointing a finger on the site. She does not use sophisticated equipments but her assessments are so far accurate according to her clients.
Cebu City Mayor Tomas said he is trying to schedule another trip to Cebu for Legaspi to complete the identification or water sources in other sites in the city that submitted a request for water sources.
“Because there are many requests from different parts of the city especially the mountain barangays. The situation is pretty bad,” Osmeña said.
The mayor has ordered the drilling of the more than 30 sites identified by Legaspi during her first visit last month but the drilling will be delayed until after the elections because of the project ban.
Osmeña earlier ordered the drilling of all sites identified with water resources which fund to be charged against the calamity fund of the city after the whole city was declared under state of calamity preparedness.
As of the moment, the city hall is concentrating on the immediate solution of the water problem in the mountain barangays through rationing.
“We are spending a lot on additional hoses and water containers. I don’t know if there’s a need for more water containers. The DPS is working on that,” Osmeña said.
The city council last month approved the P7 million budget for the purchase of hoses and water containers for the 28 mountain barangays which will be distributed through the City Agriculture Department.
Osmeña said that should the Department of Public Services need additional water tankers aside from the three existing units that are not in good conditions at all times, the DPS can borrow from the fire department that is set to receive five new water tankers anytime this month.
