Guardian member charged for killing his live-in partner

CEBU, Philippines - A member of the Guardian Brotherhood Association was charged with murder before the Regional Trial Court for killing his live-in partner.

Acquiles Bacat alias Bejie, a resident of barangay Biasong, Balamban Cebu, stabbed to death his common-law wife, Maricel Arapo, last week following a heated argument.

The stabbing incident happened in the residence of a barangay councilman in San Fernando where they temporarily took shelter.

The victim’s father, Alfonso Arapo, Jr., filed the case against Bacat after councilman Edward Natividad of barangay Panadtaran informed him about the death of his daughter.

It was also Natividad who sought the help of the San Fernando police. In his affidavit, Natividad said that he knew the accused because he is a fellow member of the Guardians, Rose Chapter.

Natividad said that in the early part of March this year, the accused and the victim asked him if they could stay in his residence before returning home to Togbongon, Bohol, where they left their children.

The accused fled after the incident but later surrendered to the Police Anti- Crime Emergency Response, Visayas Area Field Office.

No bail was recommended for his temporary liberty. — THE FREEMAN
