- Flor Z. Perolina -

CEBU, Philippines - Team Mandaue of Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes will hold a one-day caravan in major areas and thoroughfares in the city this Saturday to drum up support for and highlight the team’s vision of making Mandaue the most “livable city.”

“Inspired by the excellent attendance during our opening rally last March 26, we expect this to be the longest caravan ever to be held in the city,” said Ernie Manatad, over-all coordinator of the event, adding that as of yesterday some 5,000 vehicles were already registered.

Dubbed as “Caravan for Unity and Teamwork,” the activity is expected to be finished by 4 p.m. at the city hall grounds after which a mini- rally will be held at the public plaza grounds.

Manatad said also joining the caravan are tricycle and motorcycle owners and enthusiasts.

The caravan will start at 8 a.m. at the Mandaue City Culutral and Sports Center and will proceed to the public market, then to an area near Makro, then proceed to the Subangdaku flyover, Hernan Cortes Street, A. S. Fortuna St., M. L. Quezon Street, Maguikay Elem. School, Tingub Road, H. Abellana Street, Tawason Road, Cubacub Road, Casili Road, Hill Top Subidivision, Eversely Compound, Labogon Road, J.P. Rizal Street, Paknaan Road, Plaridel Street, G. Ouano Street, A.C. Cortes Street, A. del Rosario Street, S.B. Cabahug Street, then back to the city hall grounds.

Team Mandaue, led by reelectionist Mayor Cortes, will be in a float at the tail end of the caravan.

Mayor Cortes and Team Mandaue will have a brief stopover at five points wherein barangay officials and residents led by barangay captains will meet the mayor.

The five points are C. Seno area, Makro area, Canduman Public Market, corner Basak and Tabok, and Jagobiao grounds.

According to Manatad all participants are expected to bring their own provisions.

He said holding a caravan is one way of emphasizing the team’s platform of government: responsible health care services, enhancing quality education through infrastructure, available decent socialized housing program for the informal settlers, sufficient power and water supply, utilizing information and communications technology for the good of the family and city in general, and infrastructure projects.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
