Retired judge Magpale passes away

CEBU, Philippines – Provincial Board members expressed their sympathy for 5th district PB member Agnes Magpale for the death of her husband, retired judge Arsenio Magpale.

The retired judge died of cardiac arrest last Sunday night. 

The PB member said the late judge will surely be missed, not only by his loved ones, but also by the people whose lives he touched.

According to a website Arsenio Joson Magpale was born on April 20, 1940.

He obtained his Associate in Arts degree in 1958 and Bachelor of Law degree in 1962 from the University of the Philippines Diliman. He pursued his masteral studies in Police Management at the Ateneo de Manila University.

He started as a research attorney at the Office of the Government Corporate Counsel before becoming a corporate attorney of the Department of Justice from 1970 to 1973. He served as the 3rd assistant city fiscal of Cebu City from 1974 to 1979 and also became the legislative staff chief of Rep. Ramon D. Durano III of the 5th District of Cebu in 1987.

In 1990, he joined the bench and served as judge of the Regional Trial Court Branch 40 of Dumaguete City, acting judge of RTC Branch 57 of Makati City and finally judge of RTC Branch 225 of Quezon City.

On June 26, 2003, he was appointed to the Court of Appeals.
