School guard injured in conflict over duties

-

CEBU, Philippines - A security guard shot and hit his fellow security guard inside the premises of a university in Barangay Sambag I, Cebu City last Monday morning.

The victim was identified as Dexter Ortega, a resident of B. Rodriguez, Barangay Sambag I while the suspect was Benjamin Hermosa, of Barangay Cogon-Pardo and a native of Vallehermoso, Negros Oriental.

Both were security guards attached to Equator Security Agency and were detailed to the Southwestern University.

Ruel Dandan, 19-year-old working student of the school told police that he was sitting inside the school past 8 a.m. when he saw the suspect hurriedly approached the victim and without apparent reason, shot him once with the use of a .38 caliber revolver.

The victim was hit in the left side of his body and was rushed to the adjacent Sacred Heart Hospital while the suspect fled.

Orlando Alburo, head security of SWU, said that the victim and the suspect have personal grudges regarding their duties and responsibilities in the school that allegedly resulted to their argument prior to the incident.

Another security guard of the school said he picked the weapon with three live rounds on top of a table, outside the Accounting Department of the school, believed to have been left by the suspect before fleeing.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old man who allegedly killed his common-law wife the other day in their residence in Barangay Panadtaran, San Fernando town voluntarily turned himself over to the authorities.

Aquiles Bacat alias “Benjie” of Barangay Biasong, Balamban town and reportedly a member of the Guardian Brotherhood went to see his friend working for the Police Anti-Crime Emergency Response to submit himself for detention after admitting to the killing of his live-in partner identified as Maricel Arufo, 26, a native of Garcia-Hernandez town, Bohol.

Around 1 p.m. the other day, the said member of PACER turned Bacat over to San Fernando Police. PO3 Marjukin Misuari, desk officer of the San Fernando Police Station said Bacat told him that he slashed the neck of his live-in partner because of anger. Prior to that, they were reportedly having a heated argument over money matters. – Niña G. Sumacot and Gabriel C. Bonjoc/MEEV   FREEMAN NEWS)
