1 shot, 1 stabbed in Cebu City

-

CEBU, Philippines - Two men are under observation in a hospital after they were shot and stabbed in separate incidents in less than 24 hours in Cebu City.

Julius Mata, 24, was injured in the butt after he was shot allegedly by his neighbor, Bobit Vargas, in their residence along Villa Zapanta Street, Barangay Tejero before 10 a.m. yesterday.

Police said Vargas came looking for Mata after hearing a rumor that the latter planned to kill his father for accusing Mata as a druglord.

Mata was switching on the MCWD water when the suspect appeared from behind and shot him.

The victim was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center where he underwent surgical operation while the suspect went into hiding. A deformed slug was recovered from the crime scene.

Marlino Mata, 59, father of the victim, told the police that the previous night, the victim, who was drinking with his friends, alleged that he would kill the elder Vargas for spreading rumor in their place that he is a drug lord.

Meanwhile, a man was stabbed several times by his elder brother around 11 p.m. along General Gines Street, Barangay Sawang Calero.

Carlito Rama Sandoval, 26, sustained several stab wounds to different parts of his body and is now in critical condition at the CCMC after he was stabbed by his brother, Conrado, 28.

Investigation showed that the victim and the suspect were on the second floor of their house when a heated argument suddenly erupted between them.

The suspect then stabbed the victim with a knife and immediately fled their house. — Niña G. Sumacot/LPM   (FREEMAN NEWS)
