CCPO to maintain police patrol during Earth Hour

CEBU, Philippines - While joining the activity by turning off its lights, Cebu City Police Office will maintain patrol teams in different areas of the city during the Earth Hour on Saturday.

The Earth Hour 2010 will be joined by millions of Filipino households who will switch off their lights for one hour starting 8:30 p.m.

CCPO director Senior Superintendent Patrocinio Comendador said they would maintain the deployment of beat patrols in different areas of the city during the activity.

Personnel from the Mobile Patrol Group and from the 11 police stations will also be deployed in their respective areas of responsibilities during the hour-long activity.

With flashlights, patrol team will roam around the city during the activity to prevent potential criminals from taking advantage of the opportunity.

Comendador said they would also be turning off most of their lights in their office except for sections where electricity is needed like the Operations Section.

The campaign period for local officials will start on Friday so policemen are also on alert for any election-related incidents.

This will be the third year that Filipinos would be participating in the global activity, which aims to help save the earth from global warming.
