Sogod port seen to spur development

-

CEBU, Philippines - The opening of newly completed Mayor Thaddeus D. Durano Roll-On Roll-Off Port in Barangay Tabunok, Sogod will contribute to the development not only in the town but in the whole province as well.

This was what newly appointed Maritime Industry Authority Administrator Angelo Verdan observed.

Verdan was the guest speaker in yesterday’s blessing and inauguration of the port, which was named after late mayor Thaddeus Durano.

According to Verdan, Sogod is an ideal place because of its proximity to the towns of Isabel and Palompon in Leyte.

He said Durano was the one who brought the idea of building the port, which was realized by his daughter, incumbent Mayor Lissa Marie Durano.

The late mayor made representation to then Department of Transportation and Communication Secretary Leandro Mendoza on the project.

The DOTC then allocated funds for the project.

Sogod Municipal Engineer Rodney Menchavez recalled that ten years ago, when the late mayor visited Barangay Tabunok, he announced his intention to build a port in the area.

Mayor Durano, on the other hand, said that she credited the project to her late father who believes in its importance to Sogod’s development.

She also thanked Mendoza and Verdan for their support to the project. — Jose P. Sollano/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
