Radaza extends help to DepEd

-

CEBU, Philippines - Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Arturo Radaza has assured an assistance of close to P100,000 to the Department of Education in order to help defray expenses for the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet in Danao City last February 8 to 14.

Radaza endorsed the proposed assistance of P94,000 to the city council.

DepEd Schools Division Superintendent Carmelita Dulangon, in her letter to Radaza, said the department has a budget deficit from the Special Education Fund (SEF).

Dulangon said the department has deficit of P30, 500 in the budget meant for rewards and incentives for winning athletes, coaches and trainers, and P64,000 for personal allowances of P2,000 each for the 32 delegates.

Last February, the Lapu-Lapu City ranked 7th of the 19 divisions in Region VII during the 2010 CVIRAA Meet, which was held in Danao City.

The city's division has 32 delegates composed of 24 athletes, seven coaches, and one support staff to the 2010 Palarong Pambansa on April 11-17, 2010 in Tarlac City.

Department of Education Regional Director Recaredo Borgonia has already started mapping out plans that will break the Palarong Pambansa’s jinx and finally win the over-all title in the national meet this year.

Central Visayas has never won the Palarong Pambansa even when it was hosted in Cebu in 1994.

Before Cebu hosted the Palaro, Central Visayas was at the bottom of the rankings.

Since 1994, it has stayed in the top five but has never finished first.

Borgonia said all sports development councils of the other LGUs will be activated soon. – Garry B. Lao (THE FREEMAN)
