Abducted businessman rescued in Cebu

-

BACOLOD CITY CEBU, Philippines -  — The 26-year-old Filipino-Chinese businessman who was abducted in Bago City, Negros Occidental last March 5 has been rescued by the Negros Occidental Provincial Mobile Group in Cebu early morning last Wednesday.

Maj. Jefferson Descallar, spokesman of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, confirmed that Jordan Chua was rescued 2 a.m. of March 10 in Toledo City.

As of press time, Descallar cannot confirm whether Chua was already brought to Camp Crame as a standard operating procedure.

As per report from PNP office in Region 7, Descallar said operatives received information that Chua was in Toledo City but the alleged abductors were able to flee before the police came, leaving their victim behind.

He said that the operation was in coordination with Negros Occidental police and the Police Regional Office-6, adding that they have alerted all neighboring PNP offices after receiving reports that the victim was no longer in the province and was brought to a nearby island.

Descallar, however, did not confirm whether ransom money was paid by the victim’s family, who is involved in fishing business in Zamboanga City.

Chua was abducted while biking with three other companions in Purok Michelle, Barangay Dulao in Bago City by four unidentified persons using a silver gray Toyota Grandia with no plate number.

His companion, Joel Arroyo, 41, was shot to the left chest and is still recuperating at the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center. The two other bikers were unharmed.

Aside from a family business in fishing, Chua is also allegedly into buying and selling of luxury cars, leading police to speculate that the abduction might be connected with his business dealings. — Antonietta B. Lopez/ (FREEMAN NEWS)
